Description

The Old Parish Church in Morton features a quadrangular burial enclosure situated at the top of a steep slope above the eastern bank of the River Sark. This enclosure is surrounded on three sides by walls made of rubble, topped with flat ashlar coping, and includes a gate on the northern side, along with an iron fence above the bank. The site contains headstones from the 17th to 19th centuries, many of which are intricately carved with classical ornamentation. It is also the burial place of Kinmont Willie, known as Willie Armstrong, a famous border reiver.
