Description
This is a late 18th and early 19th century pier and quay constructed of sandstone rubble and drystone, with battered sides and a curved seaward end. It features two granite pawls. At the northern end, a U-shaped quay adjoins the pier. The pier represents a fine example of an early pier design; however, a seaward extension has been eroded down to its foundation courses. A single-storey store located at the landward end has recently been significantly enlarged. The pier was last used commercially in the 1930s. The structure is situated at Rockvale Quay, Brighouse Bay. Further information can be found in the Transactions of the Dumfries and Galloway Natural History and Archaeology Society, 1976-7, pages 138-9.
