Description
Dundrennan Parish Church is a hall church built in 1865, designed by architect Mr. Corson from Manchester and constructed by John Murdoch of Castle Douglas. The church features a prominent gable facing the street and a Germanic-style tower with a saddle roof located to the southeast. It has a five-bay nave that is buttressed and includes lancet and roundel windows with simple lights. The exterior is made of rockfaced coursed masonry, accented with polished sandstone margins, bands, and quoins.
The main elevation on the south side showcases a wide, steep gable with a large plate traceried rose window. The tower is buttressed and consists of four stages. At the ground level, there is a round-arched hood and a moulded doorway, which is dated 1865 and features a tympanum. Above this doorway, there is a set-off between finials attached to the buttresses. The entrance has a square-headed double-leaf door. The third stage of the tower includes a clock face, while the fourth stage has louvred openings with rounded heads and a circle in the spandrel. The roof is steeply pitched and features crowstep gables.
