Description
The building is a school located in Dundrennan, dating from around 1800. It features a single-storey rectangular hall with a gable wall facing the street, accompanied by a two-storey, three-bay house to the left. The exterior is made of painted rubble with polished raised margins.
The hall has a gable wall that serves as the street elevation, featuring a square entrance porch topped with a cornice, block pediment, and simple acroteria. The entrance consists of double-leaf doors with an astragalled fanlight above and a blind oculus. On either side of the porch are single light architraved windows with modern glazing arranged in a 40-pane pattern, with top-hopper openings. The hall has four bays on its flanks and sandstone skews at the gable end, also with simple acroteria, and is topped with slate roofs.
The schoolhouse has a central doorway with a consoled lintel, leading to a recessed door with a fanlight. The windows are sash and case style, with 12 panes on the ground floor and 4 panes on the first floor. There is a two-storey wing at the rear featuring 12-pane glazing.
