Description

The Harbour at Port William dates from around 1800 and was extended in 1847. It features an inlet with a small, sharply pointed apex and a substantial pier on the south side of the harbour.

The quay is long and curved, oriented on a southeast-northwest axis, with an angled apex to the southeast. The quay walls are made of coursed rubble masonry, cemented towards the northwest, while the smaller rounded rubble masonry is found at the angled apex to the southeast. There are painted stone bollards along the quay.

At the south end, there are tall square gatepiers made of dressed granite with pinning and capped with red sandstone ashlar. The boundary walls are made of rubble and are coped, located to the east and south. Various buildings constructed after 1848 are present, primarily made of painted rubble with corrugated roofing. A single-storey piended store is attached to the boundary wall on the southwest, and a single-storey gabled office, possibly from the early 19th century, is further attached to the north. There is also a gabled store with a purple slate roof and a large two-storey store to the west, featuring a double piended roof.
