Description

Gill Burn Viaduct, located on the Closeburn-New Cumnock railway line, was engineered by John Miller and opened on October 28, 1850. This railway viaduct features three segmental arches that support a double track elevated above Gill Burn. The structure is made of channelled red ashlar with rusticated voussoirs, and it has decorative bands at the imposts and at the parapet level, which is topped with a plain iron handrail. The viaduct also includes outer pilaster strips and stugged abutments.
