Description
Cherry Trees and Stables, located at 59 and 61 St John Street in Creetown, dates from around 1800. This is a two-storey, three-bay house built of rubble with Creetown granite dressings. The street-facing elevation is roughcast, featuring painted quoins and margins, as well as a band and eaves course. The central entrance door is modern and is flanked by a window on the left and a window that has been altered to a shop door on the right. There is a window in each bay on the first floor.
The gable on the right side is close to 63 St John Street, creating a wynd, while the left side gable is adjoined by a single-storey cottage. The rear elevation includes a contemporary two-storey wing with a lean-to beyond, which incorporates a room in the roof space. The house retains two 4-pane sash and case windows, two casements, and some UPVC windows at the rear. The roof features granite and sandstone ashlar coped skews and is covered with grey slates. There are tall end and ridge stacks with decorative cans and thackstanes.
The stables are located at the rear of the house and are built with similar materials. This two-storey structure has a tall gabled block that abuts a bank and is accessible from the garden and a lane above at the rear. The ground floor has a door flanked by two small windows facing the garden, with a blank wall above. The upper storey features two cart openings from the lane, separated by a gabled hayloft. There is also a lower two-storey gabled addition on one side, finished with good slates and end stacks.
