Gate Piers, Netherwood Mains

Netherwood Mains Farmhouse, dated 1722 on the northwest skewputt, is a 2-storey, 3-bay farmhouse with a single bay low east steading wing that returns northwards, creating a forecourt. The north elevation is rendered and lined to resemble ashlar, while the rest is pebble-dashed. It features a central door with a moulded architrave and plate-glass sash windows with chamfered margins, although the upper windows have been enlarged. The farmhouse has an eaves cornice, straight skews (with the skewputt removed on the left), end stacks, and a roof covered with graded slates. The south front also has 3 bays but has been altered, featuring a glazed centre porch and a left bay that is pushed forward. The wing is a single storey with a loft beside the house and has altered fenestration, constructed of red rubble. It includes doors and single windows facing the forecourt, which is now mostly concreted over. The forecourt is enclosed on the west by square gatepiers with ashlar coping and ball finials, along with iron railings on curved low quadrant walls and gates, all of which are painted.
