Description

Built in 2 stages probably on earlier foundations. Circa

1830-40 main house: 2 storeys over tall basement asymmetrical

main elevation to west and south. Grey stugged ashlar with

polished dressings, broad battered band course at ground

floor level. Entrance elevation: wide canted bay at right,

plain porch at head of steps flanked by narrow semi-

circular headed windows (tripartite above). Circa 1862 3-

storey and basement simple Italianate tower, yellow ashlar

treated as main house to west and south (rendered north and

east); large 3-light windows to south. South elevation: long;

frontage with advanced east bay. Windows 1, 2 and 3-light;

slate roofs.

INTERIOR: substantially re-cast 1862 semi-octagonal hall

with unusual chimneypiece the uprights raised to clasp lintel

with round heads reflecting the windows. Drawing room with

Corinthian screen and marble chimneypiece. Dining room with

black marble chimneypiece and brass and cast-iron grate with

dragons. All rooms with good period cornice details Library in

tower extension with custom-built bookcases.
