Description
Balliliesk House, located at Yetts O'Muckhart, was built in two stages, likely on earlier foundations. The main house, constructed around 1830-1840, features two storeys above a tall basement, with an asymmetrical main elevation facing west and south. It is made of grey stugged ashlar with polished dressings and has a broad battered band course at ground floor level. The entrance elevation includes a wide canted bay on the right, a plain porch at the top of the steps, and narrow semi-circular headed windows flanking a tripartite window above. In around 1862, a three-storey and basement simple Italianate tower was added, made of yellow ashlar similar to the main house on the west and south sides, while the north and east sides are rendered. The tower features large three-light windows on the south side. The south elevation presents a long frontage with an advanced east bay, and the windows are either one, two, or three-light, all beneath slate roofs.
Inside, the house has a substantially re-cast semi-octagonal hall from 1862, which includes an unusual chimneypiece with uprights that clasp the lintel, featuring round heads that reflect the windows. The drawing room boasts a Corinthian screen and a marble chimneypiece, while the dining room has a black marble chimneypiece with a brass and cast-iron grate adorned with dragons. All rooms are enhanced with good period cornice details, and the library in the tower extension is fitted with custom-built bookcases.
