Description
Cowden Castle is the site of a house built in 1320 by William Lambert, Archbishop of St. Andrews. The remains mainly consist of a moulded 16th century entrance arch, which features a bar-hole set in a wall from around 1800. This wall includes twin gothic recesses and is crenellated at the top. At the southern end, there is a crenellated octagonal turret, also from the same period, which incorporates a re-used lintel from the 17th century. The structure has a slated roof topped with a weathercock added later.
