Description
The steading at Tillicoultry Mains, designed by William Stirling around 1837-1838, features a U-plan layout that opens to the south, creating a symmetrical arrangement. The northern range consists of a single storey and loft, with three segmentally arched cart sheds. The arches lead into the western and eastern ranges, which are single storey. These ranges include rectangular two-storey pavilions with chamfered angles and piended roofs that have gablets over the splays. There is a small single-storey wing at the northwest, along with later additions. To the northeast, a small second court is formed, also open to the south. The building is constructed from rubble with droved margins, while the pavilions feature stugged coursers. Ground floor openings are segment-headed, with small square windows on the upper floors, bracketted eaves, and octagonal shafted chimneys.
