Description

24 North Fort Street is a terrace of four dwellings built around 1840. The building is two storeys high with an attic and features a seven-bay arrangement, consisting of two two-bay houses and one three-bay house. The exterior is made of stugged ashlar with ashlar dressings, including a base course, a cill course at the first floor, a cornice, and a blocking course. The windows are regularly spaced, with moulded architraves at the ground level, deep-set doors featuring rectangular fanlights, architraves, and a cornice.

On the North Fort Street elevation, the three bays on the right are slightly advanced, with a central door and a pair of skylights. The four bays on the left have a pair of doors at the centre and a modern box dormer to the left.

The Madeira Place elevation features a three-bay gable made of squared and coursed rubble, with windows located at the centre, to the basement on the right, and to the first floor on the left. There is also a gateway in the garden wall to the right.

The rear elevations are constructed of rubble. The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass, featuring four panes on the gable. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks and ashlar coped mutual skews.

The front of the property has a low coursed stone wall with ashlar saddleback coping, while there is a taller coped garden wall along Madeira Place.
