Description
56 South Clerk Street is a four-storey tenement block built around 1869, constructed from ashlar stone and designed without any decorative style. The ground floor features continuous shops that align with the upper floors, which have five canted bays arranged in two and three-window intervals. These bays sit on a continuous podium of advanced ground floor shops that include dentilled cornices. The southern section of the facade is canted out to create a unified shop frontage with the earlier tenements next door. The first floor has architraved windows topped with cornices.
