Description

71, 73, 75, and 77 South Clerk Street in Edinburgh is a terrace of tenement buildings constructed around 1851-1852. This four-storey structure features a classic design without columns, consisting of three blocks with a total of 9 windows. The ground floor shops are slightly advanced and have dentilled cornices. The buildings numbered 61-65 originally had a rusticated ground floor without shops, with consoled cills on the first floor above. The entire terrace has an 11-window frontage that is slightly stepped in slope. There is a tripartite bay at the corner and a four-window front facing Lutton Place, which includes a consoled doorpiece and ground floor windows, as well as a three-window quadrant facing East Preston Street. The windows are architraved and have cornices at the first floor, with a main cornice at the third floor level and a secondary cornice along with a blocking course at the top. The roofs are slated.
