Description

John Henderson, 1859, side wing 1929. 2-storey 3-bay asymmetrical villa with single bay side wing. Cream sandstone, squared and snecked rubble, front elevation stugged with ashlar dressings. Chamfered reveals; columnar mullions and pilasters with Egyptian-style capitals.

S (FRONT) ELEVATION: advanced broad gabled bay to right with band course above ground floor; cill band course at 1st floor; canted window with frieze and cornice at ground floor; pilastered segmental-arched window at 1st floor with ashlar apron, keystone and open segmental pediment. 2 single storey bays to left with overhanging eaves bracketted on stone corbels; round-arched and keystone entrance door to right with panelled door, semi-circular fanlight and tiled vestibule; canted window to left breaking eaves in gablehead incorporating timber beam., Lower 2-storey extension to outer right with band course above ground floor, corniced bipartite window at ground floor; single window with rounded reveals at 1st floor above.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: gabled main block with secondary door and single windows; single storey recessed bay to right with single window and small box dormer; single storey extension with lean-to roof turning corner to left.

E ELEVATION: string course above ground floor; side wing to left; main block with gabled bay to left, single window at ground floor, segmental-arched window at 1st floor; wallhead stack to right bay; single storey extension with lean-to roof turning corner to right. Timber sash and case windows, mostly 4-pane glazing, somne 12-pane windows and plate glass glazing to rear. Slate roof, metal flashings; 1 wallhead stack (see above), 2 apex stack to E and W, octagonal cans. Moulded eaves gutter.

INTERIOR: tiled hall with rectangular skylight over, stair with cast-iron balusters; cornices.

Boundary wall sand gatepiers: tall rubble wall with semi-circular coping to rear and sides, low wall with saddleback coping to front, Art Deco-style pedestrian gatepiers, tall carriage gatepiers with cut-away arrises and semi-circular coping, cast-iron carriage gates.
