Description

97, 99, 101 Morrison Street is a classical tenement block built in 1826 by R & R Dickson. This five-storey, twelve-bay building has a rectangular plan and features a symmetrical design. The ground floor is finished in polished sandstone ashlar, while the upper floors are clad in droved sandstone ashlar. There are band courses between the ground and first floors, as well as between the second and third floors, topped with a cornice and a blocking course. The upper floors have regular fenestration.

On the north entrance elevation, there is an advanced four-bay central section with a corniced pediment. The central entrance features a panelled timber door, with a window to the right and flanking shopfronts that have steps leading up to recessed doors. Fluted wooden pilasters with stone bases frame the shopfronts. To the left of the central section, there are steps leading to a panelled timber door, a timber door, and a single window to the outer left. On the right side of the central door, there is a single window, a two-leaf panelled timber door, and another single window to the outer right. The right-hand four-bay section includes flanking windows to the recessed door on the left, a recessed door at the centre, and a shopfront on the outer right that has a recessed door to the left and a plate glass window to the right.

The building has a grey slate roof and features twelve-pane timber sash and case windows on the upper floors, with varied fenestration on the ground floor and fanlights above the doors. Coped stacks with corniced cans and cast-iron rainwater goods complete the structure.
