Description
The statue of Robert Viscount Melville, created by John Steele in 1857, is a pedestrian bronze statue located at the center of Melville Crescent in Edinburgh. It stands on a large sandstone ashlar plinth that is stepped at the base and features a cornice at the top of the pedestal. Above the cornice is a further plinth that supports the bronze statue. The figure of Viscount Melville is depicted leaning on a bronze plinth to the left, holding a scroll in his right hand. An inscription in bronze on the plinth reads: "Robert Viscount Melville, Born 14th March 1771 Died 10th June 1851."
