Description
5 and 5A Forth Street in Edinburgh is a classical terraced house designed by Robert Burn in 1800, with later alterations. The building is two stories high with a raised attic and features three bays. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and has a cornice and blocking course. Above the projecting addition at ground level, there is a four-bay shoulder-arched arcade with moulded arrises and moulded architraves for the first-floor windows, along with an eaves cornice and blocking course.
On the north (principal) elevation, the ground level showcases a four-bay arcade. To the left, there is a two-leaf timber door with a shouldered fanlight, and to the right, a former window has been replaced with a panelled timber door, also featuring a shouldered fanlight. The central area has plate glass shop windows with aprons. The upper level has regular fenestration, including two piended and canted windows within a full-width slate-hung dormer.
The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass glazing, and the roof is covered with grey slates. The interior was not seen in 1998.
