Description
The gate-piers and railings at East Lodge, Dalmahoy House, date from around 1725 and are constructed of ashlar stone. The entrance features two main gate-piers flanked by terminal outer piers and simple cast-iron quadrant railings. The main piers have a blocky, rectangular shape with a solid base, recessed panels, and a Greek key string course adorned with moulded swags and patera in the frieze, topped with a heavily moulded cap. The terminal piers are lower but have a similar base made of droved ashlar, recessed panels, a Greek key frieze, and a pyramidal cap. The entrance is completed by a two-leaf iron gate that is designed to match the railings.
