Description

Winton Hall is a 2-storey, 4-bay L-plan house built in 1937 by Matthew Steele, designed in the Arts and Crafts style. It features a piended single-storey wing on the outer left and a full-height conical-capped stair tower at the center. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked yellow rubble sandstone with polished dressings and ribbon pointing. The openings have synthetic sandstone surrounds that are roll-moulded, with projecting cills.

To the northwest, there is a detached garage made of squared and snecked yellow sandstone, and to the north, a later sandstone and boarded timber garage built in 1984.

On the entrance elevation facing north, there is a timber panelled door set in an advanced single-storey bay, offset to the right of center. This door has an architraved, shouldered surround with a plain frieze and a projecting cornice, with a single window aligned above it. To the outer right, there is a tripartite window at ground level and a bipartite window on the first floor. A large stair window is located in the engaged circular tower to the left of the entrance, with a single window offset to the left below it. There is also a small single window at ground level in the bay to the left of the tower and another single window offset to the left on the first floor. A single window is centered in the projecting northern wing on the outer left.

The house has modern timber glazing throughout, a piended grey slate roof with stone ridging, and squared and snecked sandstone coped wallhead stacks on the east and west sides, with various circular flues.

The interior was not seen in 1996.

The boundary wall along Gamekeeper's Road is made of random rubble sandstone with round-arched coping. Square-cut coursed rubble sandstone piers flank the entry, featuring projecting cornices and pyramidal caps, with replacement timber gates.
