Description

Thomson's Court is a tenement building with origins dating back to the early 16th century, featuring a series of later additions and alterations. It stands three stories tall with an attic, rising to four stories at the rear. The building has an irregular arrangement of windows and six dormer gablets that break the eaves on the Abbey Strand elevation to the south. The exterior is finished in harled rubble, with sandstone ashlar at the ground floor and sandstone dressings throughout. The design includes predominantly moulded and chamfered margins, a wide band course at the first floor, and an additional band above the second-floor openings, along with a cill course for the dormers. A timber door leads to a central pend.

On the rear elevation facing north, there is a central full-height turnpike stair topped with a conical roof, with a door offset to the left at the ground level. To the right, there are two additional doorways flanked by windows, and a single remaining skewputt is visible on the east gable.

The building features a variety of multi-pane glazing in its timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with graded Scottish grey slate, and it includes co-axial ridge stacks and broad end stacks, along with clay cans and cast-iron rainwater goods.

Inside, there are some moulded stone fireplaces and a remnant of a moulded panel above a doorway towards the rear of the ground floor.
