Description

Probably dating to the late 18th century, Leuchold at Dalmeny House has undergone a series of additions in the 19th century. The original section is constructed of harled rubble with ashlar dressings, while later additions are of stugged, squared, and snecked sandstone with polished and drooked dressings. A base course is present.

The south (entrance) elevation is characterised by a later single-story stone passageway spanning the ground floor, with a gabled porch at the centre. Here, a panelled timber door with fanlight is flanked by windows in the outer bays. The first floor has regular fenestration with bays grouped towards the centre. A later gabled wing extends to the east, featuring a large tripartite window on the ground floor and a window aligned above. A single-story service wing projects to the left, with a double gable facing south; it contains a tripartite window to the right, with a tooled panel in the gable, and a window and door to the left.

The east elevation shows an advanced gable with a window to the outer left at the first floor.

The north elevation is divided into three bays for the original house, with a central window at ground level, flanked by a smaller window to the right. Above this, a smaller window and a "nepus" gable window breaking the eaves are positioned. Further windows are arranged across the elevation, with piend-roofed dormer windows to the attic. A wing to the east includes a French window on the ground floor, with steps and a modern railing, and a window hugging the eaves above. A single-story rubble wing to the west has two windows, and a gabled two-story section to the outer right.

The west elevation presents a window at the first floor to the left.

The building features timber sash and case windows, a graded grey slate roof, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Ashlar and harled ashlar gablehead stacks are coped with circular cans. Skews and bracket skewputts are also present. The interior was not inspected in 1997.

A tall, random rubble boundary wall with semicircular coping runs along the east side of the property.

Various outbuildings of stugged, squared, and snecked sandstone and rubble are located to the west. These include a two-story service wing, harled to the west, with timber-mullioned bipartite windows to the attic; a single-story wing with two doors and facing north; and a piend-roofed, cement-rendered garage with boarded folding timber doors.
