Description

Probably Edward Calvert, circa 1880. 5-storey and basement with 5th storey as mansard attic, 5-bay tenement with Baronial details, forming part of terrace. Squared and snecked pink sandstone with contrasting polished ashlar dressings. String courses at 1st and 4th floors; corbel table stepped down to 3rd floor; shaped gables to outer bays; stop-chamfered reveals.

N ENTRANCE elevation: shouldered roll-moulded doorways with recessed polished granite colonnettes and foliate capitals in 2nd and 4th bays; deep-set panelled doors; plate glass fanlights. Single windows above in 2nd bay; stylised dormerhead at 4th floor. Doorway in 4th bay, flanked to left by simpler roll-moulded doorway with panelled door and plate glass fanlight; bipartite windows above to each floor and in 3rd (centre) bay; 3rd and 4th bays linked above by crpwstepped dormerheads and wallhead stack. Full-height canted windows in bays to outer left and righ, corbelled to square at 4th floor; tripartite windows with single lights to returns at 4th floor; fielded gableheads above.

Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; coped wallhead stack, partly rendered; coped mutual stacks; scroll skewputts. INTERIORS: not seen 1991.

RAILINGS: decorative cast-iron railings to basement and steps up to entrances.
