Description

6, 8, 10, and 10A Dublin Street in Edinburgh is a terraced tenement building designed by Robert Reid and William Sibbald in the early 19th century. It features three storeys and a basement, with seven bays, where the central bay is slightly recessed. The exterior is made of broached ashlar sandstone, showcasing V-jointed rustication at the principal floor of No 6. There are band courses, except in the central bay, between the basement and the principal floor, as well as between the principal and first floors. No 10 has a string course at the impost level, projecting cills on the windows, and a dentilled cornice with a blocking course at No 6. The first and second floors of No 6 have architraved windows, with cornicing on the first floor, while No 10 features windows in round-arched recesses at the principal floor. The entrance has ashlar steps and platts that oversail the basement.

On the principal elevation, there is a nine-panel timber common stair door with a rectangular plate glass fanlight at the centre of the principal floor, flanked by round-arched doorpieces with six-panel timber doors and semicircular plate glass fanlights. The remaining bays at the principal floor have windows, and the upper floors display regular fenestration.

The northeast and southeast elevations adjoin other terraces, which are listed separately. The windows throughout the building include two-pane and twelve-pane timber sash and case styles. The roof is grey slate with an M shape, featuring slate-hung rectangular dormers. Broached ashlar ridge stacks and rendered gablehead stacks are present, all coped and topped with circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1997. The property is also adorned with railings made of ashlar copes topped with cast-iron railings that have spear-headed balusters and urn finials.
