Description

William Innes Thomson of W N Thomson and Co, 1936. 2-storey, irregular-plan International Modern roadhouse with Art Deco detailing, on corner site. Harled brick. Painted terrazzo base course; dividing band course; parapet.

N (NIDDRIE MAINS ROAD) ELEVATION: 3-bay including bowed angle bay. Broad entrance bay to outer right; doorway boarded up; bracketed canopy with blocking course and advertisement fin above; window to 1st floor. Central bay with full-height angled chimneybreast; slit windows flanking to both floors. 5-light bowed windows to both floors in bay to outer left.

E (CRAIGMILLAR CASTLE LOAN) ELEVATION: 2-storey in 2 bays to outer right, stepped single storey in 2 bays to outer left. Bracketed canopy over doorways between 2 bays to outer right; decorative iron grille to fanlight; advertisement fin above. Strip windows in bay to outer right.

S AND W ELEVATIONS: not seen 1995. Later replacement glazing. Flat roof.
