7, 9, 11 St Mary's Street, Edinburgh

3 and 5 St Mary's Street in Edinburgh is a late 18th-century tenement building that is symmetrical, featuring five storeys and seven bays. The ground floor includes commercial premises and a public house. The building is located on a sloping site and has a wide central stairwell bay with a rebuilt wallhead chimney. It is constructed from coursed, squared rubble with ashlar margins, raised quoins, and cills, and has a partial base course.

The central entrance to the close is a six-panel timber door. To the left, there are two shops with timber and glass entrance doors topped by rectangular fanlights. On the right, the public house frontage, designed in 1891 by R Thornton-Sheills & Thomson, features segmental-arched openings. The windows have panelled stallrisers and slender barley-sugar twist mullions, along with decorative carved panels, a timber fascia, and a dentilled cornice. The spandrels also have decorative carving, and there are eight-panel timber entrance doors with carved Bacchus head consoles.

The upper floors predominantly feature twelve-pane timber sash and case windows, while the ground floor has plate glass windows. The building has gable stacks and a slate roof.
