Description

56, 58, 60, 62, 64, 66, and 66A Dundas Street is a four-storey and basement terraced tenement with nine bays, built in the 19th century. The building features band courses between the basement and principal floor, as well as between the principal and first floor. It has projecting cills for the first and second floor windows, a continuous cornice at the second floor, and a cornice with a blocking course at the third floor. The entrance is accessed by ashlar steps and platts that overhang the basement.

On the principal elevation, there is a centrally located flush-panelled timber common stair door at the principal floor, which has a radial rectangular fanlight and is flanked by windows. There are also flush-panelled timber doors in the bays third from the left and right, with windows in the remaining bays at the principal floor. The upper floors have regular fenestration, with window guards in the bays at the third floor, except for the central bay.

The north elevation adjoins another terrace, which is listed separately (68-76 Dundas Street), and the south elevation also adjoins a separate terrace (44-86 Great King Street).

The building features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate M-roof, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The ridge stacks are made of coursed rubble with broached ashlar quoins and are coped with circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1997, but there is some evidence of working panelled shutters. The railings consist of ashlar copes topped with iron railings that have spear-headed balusters and pineapple finials.
