Description
The sundial located at The Meadows in Edinburgh was designed by Sir James Gowans in 1886. It features a bronze armillary sphere set on an octagonal base made from eight different types of freestone arranged in eleven courses. The base and cap are crafted from red sandstone, with a moulded base course. The facets of the sundial are alternately polished and recessed, and they are panelled with heraldic shields on the facets of the corniced cap. The sundial is surrounded by cast-iron railings and a gate.
