Description

St Peter's Episcopal Chapel, located at 3 Roxburgh Place in Edinburgh, was designed by James Playfair and built between 1790 and 1791. This four-storey building, which includes a basement and attic, features a five-bay Classical tenement that originally served as a church and is currently used for commercial purposes with flats above, as of 2007. The exterior is made of ashlar stone with channelled rustication on the ground and basement levels, and it includes a band course, cornice, and raised cills. The first storey showcases three Venetian windows.

The building has five bays on the right side, with a central entrance that has an oversailing platt leading to a two-leaf, eight-panel timber entrance door. Above this entrance is a central three-bay pedimented wallhead dormer, which is flanked by piended dormers and features a gable stack.

On the far left, there is a stairwell bay that includes a Doric-columned, corniced doorpiece with a six-panel timber entrance door. The windows are predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case, and the roof is covered with grey slates. The building also has cast iron rainwater goods.

Additionally, there are low stone railings along the eastern side (Roxburgh Place), topped with spear-headed iron railings.
