Description
Robert Reid and William Sibbald, early 19th century. 3-storey and basement, 6 bay terraced tenement, with 3rd storey as wallhead attic, comprising pair of 3-bay houses. Polished ashlar sandstone; V-jointed rustication at principal floor; broached ashlar sandstone at basement, to principal elevation; coursed rubble gable W elevation. Base course; band courses between basement and principal floor, principal and 1st floor; cill course at 1st floor, with cills lowered; cornice at 1st floor; blocking course at 2nd floor. Architraved windows at 1st floor, and smaller square windows at 2nd floor. Ashlar steps and entrance platts oversailing basement.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: panelled timber doors in bays to outer right, and 3rd from left; radial rectangular fanlight at No 39, plate glass rectangular fanlight at No 41. Regular fenestration in remaining bays at principal floor, and to floors above and basement.
E ELEVATION: adjoining terrace, see separate listing (22 and 22A Dundas Street).
W ELEVATION: windows centred at 1st and 2nd floors.
12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate M-roof. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered ridge and gablehead stacks.
INTERIORS: not seen, 1997, but some evidence of working panelled shutters.
RAILINGS AND LAMP: ashlar copes surmounted by cast-iron railings with balusters and finials. Cast-iron railing-mounted lamp with glass globe.
