Description

1, 2, 3 Eyre Crescent in Edinburgh is a building constructed between 1891 and 1894, primarily by George A Lyle, possibly following designs by MacGibbon and Ross. It features a horse-shoe plan consisting of 10 four-storey flatted blocks, each with small front garden areas. Each block typically has four windows, except for Nos 28, 29, and 21/23 Eyre Place, which have three windows. The design includes a left-hand canted bay and a right-hand rectangular tripartite bay. The ground floor is channelled, with a belt and cill at the first floor and a cill course at the third floor. The architraves are plain and pedimentally headed with stop-chamfers. The bays are adorned with cornices at the first floor level and belts above, topped by a main cornice and a slated roof. The west return elevation to Eyre Place features two windows and a left-hand canted bay, while the east return has three windows, including an outer bipartite window, with an original ground floor shop on the left.
