Description
6 Roseburn Cliff in Edinburgh is a terrace of seven single-storey and attic houses built in 1911 by McArthy and Watson, each with a slightly different character. The buildings feature white harling, red freestone dressings, and half-timbering, with the upper storey cantilevered out over the ground floor.
The east elevation includes the following details:
For Nos 1 and 2, there are two entrance doors with three-pane overlights in the centre. To the left, there is a three-light semi-canted bay supporting a half-timbered gable with a Voseyesque profile, which encloses a porch. To the right at ground level, there is a single window with a lean-to roof, and above it, a tripartite window. The right corner features a two-storey circular bow with two single windows on each floor.
Nos 3 and 4 also have two entrance doors with three-pane overlights in the centre. They each have a three-light, single-storey canted bay in the left and right bays. No 4 has an oriel window and a bipartite window in the left bays at the first floor, while No 3 has a bipartite window and a tripartite window beneath the gable in the right bays at the first floor.
Nos 5 and 6 have two entrance doors with three-pane overlights in the centre as well. They feature three-light, single-storey canted bays in the left and right bays, and a two-light box dormer window in the centre at the first floor, with mullioned tripartite windows beneath the gables in the end bays.
No 7 has a door in the right bay and a single-light box dormer above at the first floor. It also has a four-light semi-canted bay in the left bay and a tripartite piend roofed dormer above.
The terrace showcases a variety of timber sash and case windows, a slate roof, and harled and coped mutual stacks.
