97 Lanark Road, Edinburgh

97 Lanark Road in Edinburgh is a single-storey lodge built around 1863 by James Gowans, featuring a unique style characteristic of the architect. The building has a cruciform plan and is constructed from cyclopean rubble sandstone, with contrasting raised banding and dressings in a stick style. It has overhanging timber eaves, a cill course, and long and short dressings.

The northeast elevation is three bays wide, with lean-to wings that are recessed on the outer left and right sides, and decorative stone brackets at the chamfered angles. The northwest elevation includes a cat-slide lean-to in the center. The southeast elevation features an advanced flat-roof wing and an additional structure.

The interior was not seen in 1995, and all openings have been bricked up, where there was previously lying-pane glazing. The roof has a shallow pitch and is covered with grey slate, though the lead flashings have been removed, and it has a banded and corniced ridge stack.
