Description
246 and 248 Canongate in Edinburgh is a tenement building dating from around 1750, which was restored in 1955 by Robert Hurd. This four-storey structure features an attic and has three bays, with a two-light wallhead gable at the center and a shop on the ground floor. The exterior is made of harled rubble with ashlar dressings. There is a squared pend on the ground floor to the left, leading to Pirrie's Close. The shop front to the right has a later addition with a fixed plate-glass window. The rear of the building has been rebuilt and includes an octagonal stair outshot on the left bay.
The windows are predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case types with horns. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are ashlar skews and cast-iron rainwater goods.
