Description
The Netherbow Wellhead, located on High Street in Edinburgh, was built around 1675 by Robert Mylne under the supervision of Sir William Bruce. This square-plan wellhead is constructed from ashlar stone. It features a base course, pilasters adorned with guttae, a cornice, and a shallow pyramidal cope. On the north side, there is a rectangular iron hinged door with an oval cartouche that displays the Edinburgh coat of arms and motto. The south side has an inscribed metal plaque. The east and west sides are fitted with metal lobed plates, which are missing handles, and cast bronze spouts that are replicas. Additionally, there is a modern stone basin located on the ground to the west.
