Description

57 and 59 High Street in Edinburgh is a three-storey, five-bay plain classical tenement built around 1845, with some earlier elements incorporated into its structure. The building features a modern shopfront at the ground level, while an older range is located at the rear. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar with raised margins, and it includes a band course between the first and second floors, a cill course to the second floor, an eaves course, and a blocking course. The windows are arranged in a regular pattern.

At the rear, there is an earlier three-storey and attic range that has a mansard roof with dormers, situated on a sloping site. This section is constructed of random rubble and also features regular fenestration, dressed margins, and blocked openings at the ground level.

The first and second floors have timber sash and case windows with 12-pane glazing, while the shop front is made of modern plate glass. The roof is pitched and covered with grey slate, and the mansard roof is felted with slate on the lower sections.
