Description

Rosshill is a dwelling house located in South Queensferry, dating from the early 19th century, with a later addition to the west from the 19th century. The original house is a single storey with an attic and has three bays. It is constructed from droved ashlar sandstone, featuring long and short quoins, raised cills, smooth margins, a base course, and an eaves course. The two-storey extension is made of square and snecked ashlar, also with a base course, a first-floor band course, and an eaves course.

The south elevation, which is the principal facade, has a projecting single bay with a pedimented centre. It features a door set in an arched recess, a segmental fanlight, and a blind oculus above. The flanking bays contain single windows at the ground floor and gableted dormers above. The west extension has a single bay and regular fenestration.

The west elevation presents a three-bay front with a two-bay projection that includes a canted bay to the right. It has regular fenestration and a single-storey outbuilding attached to the left.

On the north elevation, there is a three-window rubble front with a central gableted dormer and flanking modern dormers. A modern lean-to porch is located at the right. The single bay front of the west wing includes a window at the first floor and a ground floor window on the east return.

The east elevation features a two-bay rubble gable end of the house with windows at the first floor. Single-storey garages are attached at the ground floor.

The property showcases a variety of glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows, with modern glazing in the rear dormers. The main buildings have slate roofs with straight skews and corniced stacks at the gable heads, along with a tall stack at the rear of the west wing. The outbuildings have pantiled roofs.

The interior was not seen in 2000. The boundary walls are made of squared and snecked rubble.
