Description

111 George Street in Edinburgh is a pair of former classical houses built around 1785, with later alterations made to the ground floor. These three-storey and attic buildings feature three bays and are constructed from droved and broached cream sandstone ashlar. They have long and short quoins and an eaves cornice. The ground floor of No 111 has been extended to function as a shop, which includes access to the upper floors. No 113 has a neo-Georgian reinstatement with a corniced architraved door to the left, designed by Covell Matthews between 1978 and 1980. Each house has a pair of large 20th-century piend-roofed canted dormers.

The windows are timber sash and case, with plate glass in No 111 and 12-pane windows in No 113. The buildings feature ashlar coped skews, including one at the center, and stone stacks that are rendered on the east side, topped with grey slates.

The interior of No 111 is linked with No 115, which is listed separately. The railings are modern replacement cast-iron.
