Description

Harmony House is an earlier 19th century, two-storey, five-bay house located on Eden Lane in Edinburgh. The building features a cream sandstone façade made of coursed and squared rubble with droved dressings at the front, while the rear and sides are constructed from coursed rubble and rubble, with the rear projection in pink rubble. There is a band course above the ground floor.

The front elevation has a centrally located doorway, which originally had a five-pane fanlight that is now obscured by a later porch. This porch is timber with a pedimented Doric style and features a clock. The entrance has a two-leaf panelled door, with a single window above it on the first floor. To the left and right of the centre, there are bays with single windows on both the ground and first floors. The outer left bay is advanced and has a half-pitched roof, while the outer right bay is also advanced, featuring a party wall and an apex stack to the south, with single windows on both floors.

The rear elevation includes a gabled two-storey projection with an apex and an outer wallhead stack, along with a single window on the return. The south elevation is gabled with an apex stack and has a secondary door to the left, as well as a small modern lean-to addition in the re-entrant angle with the rear projection. The north elevation features a secondary door and single windows on both the ground and first floors to the right, along with a central wallhead stack.

The house has 12-pane timber sash and case windows and a slate roof with lead flashings, complemented by three apex stacks and two wallhead stacks.

Inside, the house is subdivided and includes a vestibule and hall with stone flags, a stone stair with a cast-iron balustrade, and plain cornices.

The property is enclosed by tall pink rubble boundary walls on all sides, featuring flat coping and an arched pedestrian doorway to the north.
