1 Northfield Gardens, Edinburgh

1 Northfield Gardens in Edinburgh is a three-storey, seven-bay local authority tenement building constructed in 1921 by Reginald Fairlie, G Reid, and J Smith Forbes. It consists of twelve flats and is built of rubble with contrasting bull-faced window dressings, while the top floor is harled. A brick cill-band runs along the second floor. The building features shallow advanced central entrance bays, with a central timber panelled door that has a bracketed canopy above it. There is a tall arched staircase window set within a slightly recessed arch that breaks the cill-band, with red tile voussoirs at the arch's head. The outer bays have regular fenestration, and the ground floor's inner and outer bays feature bipartite windows also adorned with red tile voussoirs.

Low quadrant links connect the bays, featuring arched openings, red tile voussoirs, a string course, blocked eaves, and red pantiled skews. The windows are predominantly plate glass in timber sash and case style, although they were originally designed with 12-pane glazing. The roof is broad-eaved and piended, covered in grey slate with terracotta ridge tiles. The building has tall rubble chimney stacks that include a brick band and cornice, along with a projecting shouldered chimney breast at the wallhead that breaks the eaves.
