3 Northfield Gardens, Edinburgh

4 Northfield Gardens in Edinburgh is a three-storey, five-bay local authority tenement building designed by Reginald Fairlie, G Reid, and J Smith Forbes in 1921. It contains 12 flats, with the outer bays slightly advanced. The building is constructed of snecked rubble, featuring darker rubble for the window dressings. A rubble cill-band runs along the second floor between the advanced bays. The central entrance has a timber panelled door set in an ashlar-moulded doorway, which is below a blocked canopy. The windows are predominantly bipartite and arranged in a regular pattern, with rubble voussoirs above the ground floor windows.

The low quadrant links have arched openings with red tile voussoirs, a string course, blocked eaves, and red pantiled skews. The sash and case windows, which previously had 12-pane glazing, now feature plate glass. The roof is piended with broad eaves, and the projecting end bays have bell-cast eaves, covered in grey slate. The building also has tall rubble chimney stacks with cornices and a projecting shouldered chimney breast at the wallhead, which breaks the eaves.
