Description
15 George Street in Oban is a single-storey building designed by Alexander Shairp in 1884, featuring arcaded shop units with a polygonal plan that adjoins the north wall of the Caledonian Hotel. The outer elevation has chamfered bays and is constructed of painted ashlar. It includes stall risers with projecting pedestals and engaged polished granite columns topped with Corinthian capitals and bases, which frame stilted segmental-arched window and door openings. There is a string course, a deep frieze, a bracketed cornice, and a blocking course above. The flat roof is enclosed by decorative cast-iron brattishing on the blocking course.
