Cottage And Farmsteading, Auchensail Farm

Auchensail Farm is a later 19th century farmhouse that has been built onto an earlier 19th century cottage and steading. The structure is single storey with an attic and features a 3-bay rectangular-plan farmhouse alongside a long single storey rectangular-plan steading at the rear, creating a long T-plan layout. The house is harled and whitewashed, while the steading is made of whitewashed rubble.

On the southwest elevation, the farmhouse has a single storey and attic design. It features a boarded door at the center with a letterbox fanlight above, flanked by windows. Gabled dormerheads are symmetrically placed above the main façade.

The southeast elevation, facing the road, shows the gable of the farmhouse to the left with a lower wing adjoining the earlier building. This long elevation originally included a cottage at the left end and outbuildings to the right; however, the outer right end of the steading has now collapsed, leaving eight bays. The windows on this elevation are small and plain, and there are ridge stacks at the left end.

The northwest elevation, which is the rear, is constructed of rubble and has a lower single storey gabled wing at the outer right. All the windows are currently boarded up, and the grey slate roof shows signs of some repatching.
