Description
Ardmaddy Castle consists of two main blocks. The South Block is an 18th century Georgian structure with two storeys, harled exterior, and a piended slated roof. It features band courses and Gibbsian windows, with two wings projecting from the front and a two-storey pedimented portico that includes a staircase. An inset dated 1671 from an earlier house is also present. Inside, the first storey has a vaulted ceiling, and there are good rooms on the second storey.
The North Block, built in the 19th century, showcases a Scots Baronial style with two storeys and a garret. It is constructed of rubble and has a gabled, slated roof with curvilinear gablets and pedimented dormers. This block includes oriel and bay windows, as well as an octagonal tower made of ashlar. The two blocks are connected by a pend dated 1879. Repairs to the South Block were carried out in 1924.
