Description
Saddell Castle, dated 1508, was restored between 1650 and 1652 and again in the 1890s. This oblong building stands four storeys tall and is harled with a gabled slate roof featuring crowsteps. It has a crenellated and corbelled parapet, angle-turrets, and a cape-house. The doorway is adorned with rope-moulding and has an inset above displaying the date '1508', along with an inset of the Galley of Lorne. The interior was refitted around 1650, featuring a turnpike stair, a barrel-vaulted ground floor, a kitchen and hall on the first floor, and small apartments on the upper floors.
The outbuildings are of various types, constructed of rubble and currently roofless, mainly dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The curtain walls are also harled and include a round archway, one of which has an inset displaying the date MDCCCXCV, along with a belfry above.
