Description

23 Craigmore Road is a mid-19th century, two-storey, four-bay house designed in the Italianate style, with later additions from the 20th century. The house features an advanced bay on the outer left and a Regency-style cast-iron verandah at the front. It has a painted harl finish with painted margins and narrow strip quoins. The building includes a raised base course and a raised eaves course beneath overhanging timber bracketed, corniced eaves. The openings have chamfered surrounds, with round-arched two-light upper sashes and plate-glass lower sashes, projecting cills, and a canted window at the ground level on the outer left.

To the outer left, there is a single-storey, single-bay piended wing that adjoins a later conservatory, while a single-storey garage addition is located on the outer right.

On the entrance elevation, there is a glazed door in the penultimate bay on the outer left, featuring a round-arched two-light opening set in a rectangular fanlight. The remaining two bays to the right have single windows. The advanced cast-iron verandah consists of arcaded stylised pilasters with geometric detailing and moulded dentils beneath a heavy cornice. The upper level is regularly fenestrated with three bays aligned above. The advanced bay on the outer left has a three-light canted window at the ground level and a single window on the first floor. There is a recessed single garage opening at the ground level on the outer right and a glazed patio opening also recessed at the ground level on the outer left.

The windows are predominantly bipartite, with round-arched upper sashes and plate-glass lower timber sash and case windows, some featuring part lying-pane glazing in the upper sashes. The roof is covered with low grey slate and has corniced wallhead stacks to the north and south, along with corniced square cans.

The boundary wall consists of a rubble coped random rubble wall along Craigmore Road, with square-plan piers flanking the entrances to the north and south, topped with pyramidal caps and featuring cast-iron gates.
