Description
Forfar Parish Church, built between 1790 and 1791 by Samuel Bell, is originally a plain Gothic rectangular structure with a four-window south side, constructed from coursed rubble. The church features a 150-foot high ashlar classic west spire, which includes a Roman Doric pedimented doorway and Gothic openings at the upper levels, designed by Patrick Brown between 1813 and 1814 based on Bell's original design. There have been additions and alterations, including work by James Brewster in 1836 and further modifications by John Carver in 1881, which included the addition of a north aisle and traceried south windows. The church has historical ties to Gerhart Meyer Bell from 1656.
