Description

Kirkton is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey, L-shaped farmhouse. It is constructed of painted rubble masonry, with harling to the east gable, and features painted stugged quoins with margined angles. The roof is slate-covered and has sawtooth coped skews, with stugged ashlar end stacks. The windows are margined and painted, though the glazing is now uPVC. A set of five stone steps with plain wrought-iron balusters and handrails leads to the central front door, which has a decoratively glazed fanlight and margined reveals, flanked by windows on either side. The first floor has three windows, and there are three roof lights. The west elevation features a gable to the right with a ground-floor window on the left and a first-floor window on the right; a slightly recessed bay is to the left, with a window on the left and a bipartite window on the right, accompanied by a single first-floor window. Two roof lights are present on this elevation, and a blank lean-to is located at the far left. The north elevation incorporates a later lean-to with a door and window, a first-floor window, and a roof light. An advanced gable to the right has a ground-floor window and two first-floor windows on the return elevation. A further lean-to is advanced from this gable, featuring two doors and a truncated stack, with a window to the return side and three roof lights. The east gable has a window at ground and first floor left, and a window within the lean-to to the right.

The interior of the farmhouse includes some fielded panelling to doors, cast-iron balusters on the landing, and no original chimney pieces.

Adjacent to the farmhouse is a single-storey, rectangular-plan coach house and stable to the northeast. This building is constructed of painted rubble masonry with a slate roof, and features boarded hinged and sliding doors. It has a large sliding door on the west side and three doors on the south side. The stable contains timber trevis and a heck.

Drystone boundary walls enclose the property, with two sets of rounded stone gateposts visible at the west side.
