Description
68-70 High Street in Brechin is a building that dates back to before 1685, possibly built on even older foundations and featuring roof timbers from around 1470. The structure is two stories tall with a three-window front, originally four, and has an L-shaped plan with a gabled two-story and basement rear wing, situated on steeply sloping ground. The exterior is made of rubble with dressed stone details and later ashlar shop fronts that have chamfered openings and a band course at the first-floor level. The building features crowstepped gables and has a corrugated-iron roof with a brick chimney on the south gable. Some unglazed 12-pane sash and case windows remain at the rear.
Inside, there are early flush panelled doors and flagstone flooring, but the interior is largely in a ruinous condition.
