Description
Letham Grange is a two-storey mansion designed by Archibald Simpson and built between 1827 and 1830 in a classical style. The house features flanking wings, a semi-circular Doric portico, and a square-plan, balustraded tower on its west elevation. It is constructed from ashlar sandstone, with a glazed timber conservatory attached to the south elevation.
The principal east elevation showcases a square-plan stone porch adorned with a balustrade and urn decoration above. The central entrance door is flanked by tall, two-pane windows set in timber sash and case frames. The central block of the house is topped with a pediment, and a stone balustrade runs along the roofline of the wings, punctuated by urn finials.
On the rear (west) elevation, there are bow windows with balustrade decoration, and a full-height bow window on the southeast elevation. The windows are mainly two-pane glazing in timber sash and case frames, with taller windows at ground floor level. Rounded dormer windows are present at attic level on the wings, and the roof is slated, featuring some flat-roofed sections.
Images of the interior from 2020 reveal that the main reception rooms include moulded plasterwork ceilings and cornicing, timber wall panelling, and panelled doors. The main staircase boasts a polished timber handrail, moulded balusters, and culminates in a colonnaded gallery at the top of the stairs.
